A New Badge Of Heritage.

Recently James Haselgrove presented the Nick Haselgrove Wines at the regular Thursday morning meeting.

James talked about his son Nick now running the business and the new logo bornout of the three generational thread of family history running through the business.

James’ father HR Haselgrove OBE was instrumental in running Mildara Wines from 1934 until his retirement in1973. In that time he developed some famous products such as Mildara Brandy and Sherry and then from the early 60’s the highly regarded Coonawarra reds such as the famous 1963 Mildara Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon.

He was also renowned from the 1950’s and 60’s era for the “Bin” series of fine reds, being blends of Coonawarra, McLaren Vale and Langhorne Creek, both Shiraz and Cabernet. The wines and the labels derived from them have given us the inspiration in creating our new

James also spent his early winemaking years at Mildara Coonawarra managing vineyards and developing the winery and local distribution. During this time he also developed his own 30 acre vineyard in the heart of Coonawarra.

He left in 1980 to set up James Haselgrove Wines, and because of the great wines from the Mildara Bin Series, decided to base the business in McLaren Vale, using both grapes from the McLaren Vale vineyard and Coonawarra to make and market direct to their customers some great wines of both regions.

James Haselgrove Wines had cellar doors in both regions and were amongst the very first to offer food at the cellar door with The wine tasters Lunch.
