Most people have said that they want to grow old in their own home. For many people this is not a reality. This could be due to illness or their care needs can become too difficult for family members to cope with.

The government has funding available for people who wish to stay in their own homes, this is the Commonwealth Home Support Program, Home Care Packages or NDIS for people with Disabilities. With the help of an Aged Care and or an NDIS provider, you can live in your home for as long as you choose.

You can have help with your personal care, which includes bathing and showering, cleaning of your home, transport, this can be for shopping or appointments that you need to attend. You can also have someone help with gardening or even some social support, where someone can take you out and enjoy what the community has to offer.

Home Care packages range from level 1 to level 4 packages. Level 1 being the lowest level for basic care needs, where a level 4 is the highest level of funding for more complex needs. A Home Care Package allows the person to use their funding as they see fit, to help them remain independent in their own home.

The NDIS assesses your needs and allocates funding that is specific to you, so that you can stay independent at home.

The benefits of staying at home longer is, that you can live in familiar surroundings with familiar people around you. You will most likely live longer as well; studies have shown that by moving and living in unfamiliar surroundings can reduce life expectancy in some cases.
